Theme of Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge

At first glance, there's little about the Galaxy S7 that screams "different" compared to the design of the Galaxy S6. Both the S7 and S7 Edge consist of an aluminum frame with glass panels on the front and back. It's easy to tell that both are Samsung devices through and through, as both feature large Super AMOLED screens, minimal bezels on the sides, and physical home buttons beneath the screens.

Both the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge look very similar to their predecessors on the back, although this year Samsung has managed to reduce the camera bump to just 0.46mm. Also, both have slightly curved edges on the back, similar to the Galaxy Note 5. This really helped with the handling of the Note 5, so we're really excited about this design change on the S7. and S7 Edge.
Speaking of the Galaxy S7 Edge, this newer model has a larger 5.5-inch curved screen compared to the S6 Edge, which was the same size as the actual S6. This probably isn't a bad move by Samsung: the S7 Edge's larger screen is enough to set it apart from the standard Galaxy S7, making it a little easier for people to figure out which device is right for them. Aside from this design change, the S7 Edge has narrower bezels on the left and right sides.

Other than these minor changes, there's not much new here. Below you'll find a micro-USB port in the center, a 3.5mm headphone jack on the left, and a single speaker grille on the right. The power/standby button is still on the right side of each device, and the volume controls are on the left.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 has a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED Quad HD display, while the S7 Edge has a 5.5-inch display. BothThe Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will come with a Samsung Exynos 8 Octa or Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, depending on the market. Anyway, all versions are paired with 4GB of RAM.

Otherwise, both sport4GB of RAM, 32 GB of onboard storage and... get that... microSD expansion! That's right: Samsung brought back expandable storage with the S7 and S7 Edge. A microSD card with up to 200 GB fits in the SIM 2 slot, which should definitely please Samsung fans.
For those power users who push their phones to the limit or just enjoy gaming, it's also worth noting that Samsung is stepping up its game (pun not intended) when it comes to keeping the phone cool under heavy use. How is that? This time, next to the processor is a copper tube that contains water that flows through the processor, cooling it as it heats up from gaming and other heavy tasks.

Both the S7 and S7 Edge come with 12-megapixel rear cameras with an aperture of f/1.7 and a pixel size of 1.4µm. For comparison: S6 and S6 Edge are equipped with 16-megapixel rear cameras, f/1.9 aperture and a pixel size of 1.12 µm. One thing to remember is that megapixels aren't everything: the S7 and S7 Edge's cameras can let in 25% more light than the S6 and S6 Edge.
Samsung has also decided to ditch the removable batteries in the S7 and S7 Edge, which shouldn't be too surprising given the smartphone's predominantly glass build. The S7 comes with a non-removable 3000mAh unit while the S7 Edge has a 3600mAh cell. Both have fast and wireless charging capabilities, which is definitely a plus.
Features of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge

Similar to the LG G5, both the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge come with always-on displays. Lock screens can show the time, a camera shortcut, notifications, weather information, battery percentage, and some other useful information. It was only a matter of time before Samsung jumped on the bandwagon and we're very glad the company is putting the Super AMOLED screen to good use.
Another key feature that Samsung has brought back to its flagship lineup this year is dust and water resistance. Both the S7 and S7 Edge have an IP68 rating, meaning each phone can survive a little splash of water and a bit of dust. And unlike the Galaxy S5, the two new phones don't have any annoying flaps to keep dust or water out of the ports.
Software Samsung Galaxy S7 und S7 Edge

Unsurprisingly, both run a heavily customized version of Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Samsung's Touchwiz overlay is still in full force, although it's clear that Samsung has worked pretty diligently to improve performance this time around.
One of the biggest changes to Touchwiz this year is one that some users might find a bit strange. The app drawer is now optional. By default, the app drawer has a strong presence here, unlike the LG G5, which removes it entirely, but there's an experimental option in the Galaxy Labs section of Settings that lets you toggle the drawer off and on instead of all yours Place apps on the home screen. We've heard that Android N is reportedly dropping the app drawer entirely. So it's not too surprising that big OEMs like Samsung and LG are making this transition.

Other than that, the user interface looks pretty much the same on the S7. However, Samsung has packed some useful Edge features into the S7 Edge that are pretty cool. Not only do you have quick access to your favorite apps, but Samsung has also added something called Task Edge for quick shortcuts to various tasks. like sending SMS etc. People Edge is back too, offering quick access to your favorite contacts. There are also new areas to add shortcuts to third-party apps.
